Ancient water systems (1).webp

The remarkable Hulikere tank, carved in the 12th century, is often overlooked by visitors to the Hoysala sites at Halebidu, Karnataka. It was once part of a larger temple that was destroyed in the 14th century in Hulikere, a small settlement near the Kedareshvara temple. The tank still holds water today and features steps on four sides which descend from lines of model shrines, topped with gorgeous stunted Vesara (the Karnataka variant of the Dravida temple style) towers.

What’s inside those tiny rooms surrounding the tank?

there used to be idols of nakshatra gods as per our dharma, which are 27 in total (12 with pinnacles and 15 without pinnacles) - Most of these were stolen during invasions.
